February 14, 2023

CADE-Conselho Administrativo de Defesa Econômica

ABOUT THIS EVENT

Please join the ABA Antitrust Law Section in Brasilia at CADE as we gather government officials and private bar experts for its first Global Seminar Series (GSS) to be held in 2023. Advance registration is necessary (prior to February 14) and complimentary.

MORE INFORMATION

The GSS will feature three segments of general interest to all competition, consumer protection, and privacy practitioners, on leading-edge issues, with ample opportunities for sharing thoughts, questions, and networking.  Topics of discussion will include:

Panel 1: Competition, Consumer Protection, and Privacy in Technology Markets

Technology companies face increasing regulatory scrutiny worldwide. Recent challenges for the technology sector include competition enforcement, consumer protection, and data protection issues, which are often interrelated.  This panel will address key competition and consumer protection considerations for technology companies and will also discuss the evolving data protection landscape in Brazil, in particular how Brazilian companies are responding to privacy requirements while also prioritizing competition and innovation needs.

Panel 2:  Digital Trends and Merger Control

In response to the digital revolution and the increasing impact technology has on business, competition authorities worldwide are stepping up merger enforcement. They are revising current policies and guidelines, advocating for more aggressive use of existing rules to their full potential effect, and calling for new theories of harm, rules, and regulations where they see the need. How is CADE responding to these trends? What do these trends mean for companies engaging in transactions in the digital marketplace and other industries in Brazil? And what are the broader implications of these changes?
